Statement from the London Chamber of Commerce Regarding Proposed Tariffs on Canadian Goods
The London Chamber of Commerce is deeply concerned about President Trump’s proposal to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian goods. As Canada’s largest trading partner, the United States plays a critical role in the economic prosperity of both nations. These extreme tariffs will inevitably lead to rising prices on both sides of the border, straining businesses, consumers, and the long-standing trade relationship that has benefited both countries for decades.
We strongly urge Canadian and U.S. policymakers to engage in constructive dialogue and seek a more balanced and collaborative solution that avoids unnecessary economic disruption. Protecting the stability and integrity of this vital trading partnership is paramount.
While discussions continue, we also encourage Canadian businesses to proactively assess their operations and supply chains, taking precautionary measures to mitigate the potential impacts of such tariffs if they are implemented. Strategic planning and adaptability will be key to navigating these challenges and maintaining resilience in uncertain times.
The London Chamber of Commerce remains committed to supporting our members and advocating for policies that foster economic growth and collaboration across borders. Together, we can work toward solutions that preserve and strengthen the shared prosperity of Canada and the United States.
