Advocacy Win: London Chamber of Commerce Celebrates Success in Helping to Secure International Student Visas for Fanshawe College
In a significant advocacy win, the London Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated the successful allocation of international student visas to Fanshawe College, safeguarding critical programs and economic contributions to the local community.
The London Chamber of Commerce joined its voice with Fanshawe College in advocating for a fair allocation of international student visas from the province which was based on Fanshawe’s ability and track record of providing critical support and services for international students.
In a heartfelt thank-you letter addressed to the London Chamber of Commerce, Fanshawe College expressed its gratitude for the unwavering support and advocacy efforts. The letter, dated March 28th, detailed the positive outcome of the allocation, which closely mirrored the college's international student enrollment figures from the previous year.
The province's thoughtful approach in evaluating each college individually was evident, acknowledging Fanshawe's strengths in meeting labor market demands, delivering exceptional academic education, and fostering a diverse student population.
While the Chamber is pleased with the 2024 allocation of international student visas to Fanshawe, we are also aware of the challenges that persist with the Ontario college sector, particularly concerning underfunding and reliance on international student enrollment.
Ontario has the dismal status of having the lowest funded post-secondary education system in Canada.
The province’s infusion of $1.3 billion into the post-secondary system over three years represents a step in the right direction, and we remain hopeful for additional investments in education to ensure continued access to quality education and support for the region's future prosperity.
