SUMMARY:v2026 Behind The Numbers: A Special Address from the PBO
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a timely and insightful address from Jason Jacques\, Canada's Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO). This event comes at a particularly interesting moment: Mr. Jacques' interim term will have just concluded\, and while he has applied for the permanent role\, the Government may appoint a new PBO before the event. If so\, we'll hear directly from his successor instead.\n\n\n\nEither way\, attendees will gain a unique\, first-hand perspective on federal finances at a critical time just around the time of the spring fiscal update. This session promises candid analysis\, fresh insights\, and a rare look behind the numbers that shape Canada's economic direction.\n\n\n\nDon't miss this opportunity to hear from Canada's budget watchdog at a pivotal moment for the Office.\n\n\n\nAbout Jason Jacques:\n\n\n\nJason Jacques holds an MA in Economics from Queen's University\, is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CMA)\, and a CFA Charterholder. On September 2\, 2025\, Prime Minister Mark Carney appointed him then serving as a Director General within the Office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer as the interim PBO for a six-month term.\n\n\n\nBefore taking on this role\, Jason held key positions across the federal public service\, including at the Privy Council Office\, Finance Canada\, the Treasury Board Secretariat\, and the Bank of Canada.\n\n\n\nThe Parliamentary Budget Officer is an independent agent of Parliament\, mandated to provide non-partisan economic and fiscal analysis to the Senate and House of Commons.\n\n\n\nJason brings extensive experience in federal fiscal policy and played a role in the early development of the PBO\, which was created in 2006 under former prime minister Stephen Harper to strengthen transparency and accountability in federal budgeting.\n\n\n\nPhotography and Video Disclaimer: The London Chamber of Commerce reserves the right to photograph\, record\, and live stream this event.
